About Me

Not a huge amount to say — I’m an author of steamy stories who happens to be a teacher; these things don’t mix well in public, so I tend to be fairly quiet about real life in my blogging.

I am, however, interested in all sorts of things — books, writing, theater, mythology, and, obviously, erotica! I’m a huge reader of genre fiction — mostly mysteries and fantasy, but also science fiction and historical romance.

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. My first piece of (attempted) erotica was written a few years later — but before I had any practical experience in what I was writing about. I went through a long stretch where I wasn’t writing at all (at least, nothing I’d want to share with anyone). Then about a decade ago some students introduced me to a fantasy series you may have heard of: the Harry Potter books. Loved them, and became fascinated by the narrative approach that Rowling was taking — the way that the style and world-view grew more mature and sophisticated as Harry and his friends aged. Went online to see if I could figure out if that was a purposeful choice, or just the result of her growing maturity as a writer….

And tumbled into the netherworld of online fandom.

It took me a month or so to start writing fanfiction (working out some of the thoughts about the books and characters that I was struggling with); took another six months and I was writing adult fics. After all, the series involved the growth to adulthood of a group of teens; how could sex not be part of that?

After the series was finally completed, my world returned more or less to normal… but an idea for a fantasy novel occurred to me. A Young Adult fantasy novel.

At one point I got stuck; one of the main characters was obsessing about sex (this was after all a teen). Well, I thought, I can’t get him laid in the actual book, but I can write a fantasy scene for him….

Essentially, I wrote fanfiction for my own unfinished novel: a living out of a fantasy for the character in which the character was able to hook up with the older woman that he was obsessed with.

Once that was out of my system, I put it aside and was able to start working on my novel again.

A few months later, however, I looked at the piece I’d written again. I was happier with it than I thought I’d be. I changed the setting to an American high school and made the older lady the protagonist’s teacher. It was written in the first person, well after the fact, so I found myself wondering, Why is he telling this story? What if…

What if he had become a teacher himself and were writing the story for the edification and entertainment of his own young student…

And that was how my first piece of published erotica, “Thing of Beauty,” came to be.

I loved Ken, the narrator, but I also became fascinated by Allison, his young lover. Why would she want to read a story like that? So the whole series — both Ken’s stories and Allison’s — flowed from there.

  3. Hello K.D. Via Google+ and a comment I made on here we connected and I’ve been following your blog casually for a few weeks now I think. Mostly going back through old stuff.

I create websites. Not a guru yet but getting there. And what I see on a lot of other sites is two things: One, lack of search engine optimization and two, under use of this great media. Websites can be interactive, generate a sense of community, act as a resource, and not just (as is most common) multi-page billboards to the speeding browsers.

Have you thought about what you COULD do with this site? A forum, an online smut writers’ resource page, pics from readers inspired by your writings, a reviews section… it’s fairly endless and limited only by what you can think of. All of it geared to generate loyalty, new visitors, and book sales.

You have great content, interesting things to say, and a book to market. With the Amazon fiasco also some great free publicity. (Yay controversial, arbitrary censorship decisions!) The backbone of a great site is all here, it’s just the packaging and taking things to the next level that’s missing.

As I said I’m reasonably new to creating websites as a profession. For you that means I’m cheap. lol Take a look at my adult site http://www.ComeDenyHer.com. If you are interested in more examples (mainstream) I can send you links.

The biggest single factor for my sites is that the owner MUST be able to maintain, update, and add new content. (Second and third are effective seo and interactivity.) If in looking at it, you think, “Hey, I could go for something like this, especially if I can update it,” let me know.

I hope to hear from you.

    • Thanks so much!

I HAVE been thinking about how to use this blog more effectively. I will say that I’m not at a place where I’m making enough off of my writing where I think I can afford to hire a designer, but I’d love to talk with you. You can email me at kdwestwrites@gmail.com.
